Corvane Freight

Dispatchers were planning 400 deliveries a day across four tools and a spreadsheet. We designed one dashboard, and a driver app, that replaced all of them.

The dispatch dashboard: every van, every stop, one screen.

What we found

We spent the first three weeks in the dispatch room, watching two morning shifts and interviewing eleven dispatchers and drivers.

  1. 4tools open at once

Maps, a routing tool, a messaging app and the warehouse system, all on two monitors.

  2. 11 minto re-route one van

Every change was typed into three places, then phoned through to the driver.

  3. 1spreadsheet nobody admitted to

The real plan lived in a shared sheet, because no tool showed the whole day.

Before and after

Before

  • Four tools and a spreadsheet
  • Route changes phoned through to drivers
  • Delays spotted when customers called
  • New dispatchers trained for three weeks

After

  • One dashboard for the whole day
  • Changes sent straight to the driver app
  • Late vans flagged before they are late
  • New dispatchers productive in four days

The driver app

Drivers told us they didn't want another app: they wanted fewer phone calls. So the app shows one thing at a time: the next stop, the route there, and a large button to confirm arrival.

  • Works with gloves and in direct sunlight
  • Keeps working offline in loading bays
  • Route changes arrive with a vibration, not a call
  • Proof of delivery in one photo

A design system to grow into

Corvane's own developers now build new features from 64 documented components, with colour, spacing and type stored as design tokens shared between design files and code.

  • 64 components
  • 3 themes, including high contrast
  • 1 source of truth for design and code

What changed

  • −63% time to re-route a van
  • 0 side spreadsheets after month two
  • 4.7/5 driver app rating in an internal survey

Our dispatchers stopped keeping a spreadsheet on the side. That was the real test, and the new dashboard passed it.
